Help me get in shape for my vacation! I've been working out but I can't lose those last 10 pounds.
Get a bikini-worthy body fast with these tips from celebrity fitness trainer, Nancy Kennedy.
First, be realistic about your goals and remember that exercise and nutrition are the key to responsible, healthy weight management.

Kick it up a notch.
Maximize the intensity and duration of your cardio workout, and challenge yourself by lifting a little more weight and increasing your sets during weight training. Don't go crazy and risk injury - you don't have to be aggressive to take your body to the next level. For example, if you run the treadmill, just add a degree to the incline and run a few minutes longer.

Think big.
"Shock" big muscle groups like your legs into shape by changing your normal routine and by introducing lunges and squats to target those tough-to-tone areas.

Consider your food choices.
Eat four to six small, well-balanced meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism active and drink at least 64 ounces of water to banish bloat and improve muscle function.

Know your body.
Always consult with your physician before starting a new fitness program and work with a trainer to customize the best program for you.

Have fun.
If you don't enjoy your workout, you won't stay consistent - and that's the real key to staying in shape.

Can I eat too much protein?
Studies have shown that an excessive amount of protein in the diet may leach calcium from the system, resulting in bone loss. So how do you know what is right for you?
Always consult a registered dietician recommends Dr. Volpe. Traditionally, 30% of total calories consumed is the recommended guideline. However, Dr.Volpe refers to the RDA's guidelines that recommend 12-15%. To convert this figure to grams, multiply .4 grams of protein per lb. of body weight. For example, a 110-lb woman would require 44 grams of protein daily according to this model.

I heard that high protein/low carbohydrate diets are a great way to lose weight. Are they safe?
Subscribing to popular diets without first consulting a registered dietician can be risky because everyone has different nutritional needs and conditions which may require modifications.
It may sound traditional, but balance is the key to a healthy lifestyle. According to Dr. Volpe, carbohydrates are so important to the body's basic function that they should comprise 50 to 55% of total calories. Glucose, which is derived from carbohydrates, provides energy.
