When it comes
to hyperpigmentation - "pregnancy masks,"
freckles, and age or sun spots - an ounce of prevention
goes a long way, according to leading dermatologist
Dr. Kathy Fields. Her prescription: avoid the sun
at all costs! "It's not just midday sun that's
dangerous," says Dr. Fields. UVA rays, which
cause age spots, are present from AM to PM, year-round.
To block these dangerous rays, wear total block
from sun up to sundown all year long, and reapply
it every two hours for prolonged sun exposure. Don't
skimp either. One full teaspoon on the face is the
proper amount to use - any less and you are not
fully protected.
Kojic acid, hydroquinone,
and various alpha hydroxy acids (AHA's) have been
proven effective for those with skin discoloration.
Remember that sunscreen is vital when using any
lightening product, as the skin may be more sensitive
and susceptible to damage if unprotected. If your
skin is sensitive or you have had reactions to
skincare products in the past, please contact
your dermatologist prior to use and follow all
directions. The following products have received
